I’ve learned a lot watching our grapevines this summer.
First of all, I’ve noticed that when I pull them off the vine, it doesn’t take long for them to not taste as fresh or be as plump. They simply start to wilt. Because of this, I now go and do what I remember doing countless times as a child under my Papa’s grapevines…I pick and eat them right then and there. I think they’re best that way.
Secondly, I’ve noticed that every single day, these grapes get bigger and sweeter. Last night, I was shocked at how much bigger they were from the night before. Juicier. Bigger. Deeper color.
We picked some last week, and even a few the week before…but if we had picked them all, we would have never tasted the sweetness that’s occurring now.
I wonder how many things we pick off of the vine too soon thinking it’s the right time? Our eagerness to taste and see makes us pull them off before they have time to ABIDE LONGER and grow sweeter.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. John 15:4
In The Passion translation it calls this abiding “LIFE-UNION”. I love that. When we join our life to his, we cannot help but grow more and become more sweet and full.

Yes! The further away from The Vine, the more withered and less sweet we become ❤️
