MORNING THOUGHTS ☕️: I jumped on in to 1 Timothy this morning. Man. Even the intro is loaded. Right out of the gate…Chapter 1, verse 3…caught my attention.
Paul is basically telling Timothy to NOT pay any attention to cultural myths or traditions of the day because they are digressions that simply breed CONTROVERSIES and DEBATES. He goes on to say they are “devoid of power” that builds up and strengthens the faith in God.
I used to love a good debate. Oh, I had lots of opinions. Both leave you feeling blah and not great after. What’s even the point? They are DEVOID of the spirit of God. They separate. Divide. Cause strife and distraction.
I, for one, have begun to TUNE OUT all of the debate and controversies around us. I watch as many “Christian leaders” jump into the ring to debate on the daily. It all sounds like clanging cymbals to me.
DIGRESSION: something that wanders away from the MAIN POINT, TOPIC OR PURPOSE in speaking or writing. Something that departs from the principal line.
That line…It’s love. That’s what holds the power. Not trying to be right or prove others wrong.
