MORNING THOUGHTS ☕️: I don’t really understand why today is called “GOOD FRIDAY.” I mean…
He was denied. Betrayed. Beaten. Nailed. Denied and betrayed by friends/disciples. Beaten to a pulp/beyond recognition for a “crime” he didn’t commit. Nailed to a cross for 6 hours before he died.
Some jokingly say it’s called “Good Friday” because it’s the beginning of a four-day holiday. Lord, help us, if that’s how we view today as good.
I’m assuming it’s called GOOD because, as we know, what’s up is down and what’s right is left and what’s in is out in the Kingdom. What appeared to be a horrible, horrific day…with a tragic ending…was actually, in fact, a good day and an accomplished mission.
In John 19:28 it says that “Jesus knew that his mission was accomplished.” The WHAT. But versus 29 and 30 show us the WHY and the HOW.
Jesus’ why was YOU + ME. His bride. “It is finished, my bride!” I guess we were the JOY set before him that enabled him to endure.
“And then, he bowed his head and SURRENDERED HIS SPIRIT to God.”
This is the HOW. Surrender.
SURRENDER: to yield; give up; relinquish
In the beautiful, circular nature of the kingdom, you and I now have a mission to accomplish. When/if we will surrender our spirit to God, we, too, will be able to say “It is finished, my Lord!!” He did it for US. We do it for HIM. And then, He will turn to us and say “well done, my good and faithful servant.”
On that day, OUR mission began. I guess it was a good day, after all.
