I’m reading through The Passion Translation this year. I’m only on Mark:). I tend to camp out.

Mark 7 Jesus Breaks Religious Traditions

I found it glaringly obvious this morning that breaking religious traditions PRECEDED many of the miracles.

Jesus told the Pharisees (which, by the way, means “separated ones”) and religious scholars that their man-made rituals, man-made set of rules, and man-made, passed down traditions would NOT honor God.

MAN-MADE: produced, formed, or made by man. Produced artificially.

(This is where I always want to insert and write a REALLY LONG letter to those who’ve been hurt by religious traditions of man and therefore, don’t believe. I’ll save that for another day.)

Today, my thought is that if you and I want to see breakthrough and miracles in our lives, we must first breakthrough and break free from man-made religion. We MUST ask and explore the questions of:

•What do we believe that was simply “passed down tradition”?

•What man-made rituals/rules are we adhering to that actually dishonor God? AND…dishonor the beautiful fact that we were made in HIS image…because when we dishonor ourselves by coming under MAN-MADE religion…we actually dishonor God.

ASK. “Lord…where there are man-made rituals or religious traditions in my life…SHOW ME. Make them feel super bristly to my spirit…highlight them for me the next time I do them or think them. Override all tradition. Show me YOUR TRUTH.”

Let’s hold EVERYTHING up to His word. Remember…it’s TRUTH, not tradition, that sets us free.
