“A man makes his plans, but the Lord directs his steps.” I love it in the Passion Translation: “Within your heart, you can make plans for your future, but the Lord chooses the steps you take to get there.”
One is MACRO (we make BIG PLANS).
One is MICRO (He directs the steps).
Here’s the deal with that...because, believe me, I’ve made some grandiose plans for my life before...oh yeah, BIG plans...and if I’d stayed laser focused on THE PLANS and not taken a detour so that I became laser focused on HIS VOICE above and beyond any plan...I would have missed him directing the steps.
It was a series of small, obedient steps that got us to where we are today. We had no grand plan for ANY of THIS. We would have NEVER seen living on a mountain, in the woods, in a tiny town we’d never heard of, going to Kenya, adopting two children, leaving towns and families and friends we loved. Nope. It never would have come to pass had we stayed focused on OUR PLANS.
My greatest advice: get to KNOW the Lord, hang out with Him on the daily so you begin to understand his voice and his ways...let HIM direct your steps and trust those micro moves you don’t really understand at the time. KNOW that He uses all things for good and that where you’ll end up may not be where you thought...but it will be a whole lot better.
