In 1 Samuel 15 is where we find the phrase we’ve all heard: “obedience is better than sacrifice.”
Samuel said to Saul …
“What is more pleasing to the Lord; your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice?!”
We can do all the “right” things…check off that list with our Bible studies and church meetings and Sunday gatherings and good deeds…we can walk the walk and talk the talk.
But obedience is the deal.
And you can’t be obedient if you can’t hear his voice.
And you can’t hear his voice if you don’t know Him and His nature.
And you can’t know Him and His nature unless you personally spend quality time with Him.
And you can’t spend quality time with Him if you’re busy running around checking off the religious lists you’ve made that you think are necessary and what he wants from you.
Sit. Be still. Hang out. Listen.
Don’t just run around doing all the things you THINK you’re supposed to do … he may just want to BE with you so he can whisper something in your ear.
