What’s your driver?
MORNING THOUGHTS ☕️
“So the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with crushing labor. They forced them to build. They worked them without mercy. They made their lives bitter. They were ruthless in their demands”. - Exodus 1:11-14
Are you feeling worn down? Crushed with labor? Forced to build? Working without mercy? Bitter?
The world and its demands will do that. It will cause you to strive, to stress, to sell out the things that matter most for the things that matter least.
The question I scribbled in the margins by this verse is “whose slaves are we!?! What are we slaves to?!”
Big mortgage? Big car payment so you can drive a fancy car? Keeping up appearances? Running yourself ragged to please a boss? Trying to gain followers? Being online to please them and produce content instead of sitting quietly and reading a book or being fully present with the ones in your midst?
WHAT. IS. YOUR. DRIVER?
This isn’t a shaming post. I was once in Egypt striving and being driven. I know how easily it can happen, how hard it can be to break free.
BUT.
There’s a promise of rest and ease and flow and grace that is available once you shake off those drivers.
We weren’t made to be driven to exhaustion. We were made to co-labor from rest.
